Surface Design Study

Surface Design

References

when looking at these photos I mostly looked at the ones on the far left, what I took from this was that I wanted to create a fabric type looking pattern, ones your normally see on bedsheets, etc but instead of doing a normal flower or circles I wanted to try and encorapte a star type of pattern.

process

when coming up with ideas I first went into procreate and jotted any ideas that come to mind while also thinking of a colour pallet in mind, with my ideas planted out I drew a quick sketch of what came out of them.
I took quite a few of these ideas from the references above for example the star came from the far bottom left picture that has the art on a building.

while working on this I forgot to take some process picture until the end but this is what I came up with.

from these photos my design had a few changes thanks to peer feedback. originally I had no idea what to do in between the flames, leave it empty, or put something there? a few comments suggested that I put some decorations that are within my reference bedsheet photo or the other fabric pillow and I went with putting a smaller flame there like the big one beside it. I also got a few other comments on which I will mention below

Final Design

as you can see from the one above a comment I got was also about the colour of the inner wave to make it a bit nore darker than light, and looking at it now I like it better than the other one! ( The colors of the wave and circles are different, its just a bit hard to see) I also made one as a pattern I mainly used rotation to create it.

As I mentioned this design was created to be on fabric I mainly focused on shapes and how I can use them to reflect the image I had.  For me this project helped me get back into rhino learning how to use the feature again. Aside from hatching which took a bit to get it to work, everything went well for me.
